With COVID-19 keep expanding, this week Facebook launched a new platform called ‘Community Help’ where people can either offer assistance to others who lives nearby or request help with tasks from locals.

“Today we’re announcing Community Help, a place for people to request or offer help to neighbors, such as volunteering to deliver groceries or donating to a local food pantry or fundraiser.”

The Community Help platform enables you to search through posts that have been posted by anybody within a 50 mi of your location or narrow down the range of your search to your immediate, local community.

When you tap on either ‘Request Help’ or ‘Offer Help’, you activate a pop-up tab, which includes a range of options that you can add to your post, including up to 14 images and relevant tags to help people better understand your needs.

Also, it enables you to set a preferred contact method (Messenger or WhatsApp), and choose to post publicly or only to friends like regular Facebook posts.

Although the focus of Facebook right now is on assisting those in need of help amid the COVID-19 pandemic, however, Facebook may opt to keep Community Help as a permanent option, giving local communities a means to better connect and help each other via the app.

The option is first being launched in the US, the UK, France, Australia, and Canada, which will happen over the next few days, with Facebook planning to expand the functionality to more regions “in the coming weeks”.

Our Take

The Community Help program shows the importance of communities on social networks, as well as how much Facebook values its community engagement. It stands for a rise and a new milestone for users’ interaction on social media.

While COVID-19 virus keeps expanding, people need to keep their social distance with each other, to this situation, Facebook makes a big move which shortens the distance between the society by integrating all online resources onto one platform, allows people who live in the same communities can either offering or request help promptly. Thus, as a marketer, this is an opportunity for brand to create a win-win situation by offering their help to the community meanwhile imprint a positive image for the brand.
